I am a painter whose work centres on female experience: ageing, visibility, and the body as a site of cultural pressure. Working with acrylic on raw and primed canvas, I use paint’s physical properties, its tendency to bleed, stain and resist control, to produce surfaces that feel bodily, vulnerable and unstable.
My paintings engage with what culture does to women’s bodies and how women negotiate that pressure from the inside. Sections of faces and bodies emerge from abstraction.  This reflects how women are trained to self-examine their faces and bodies, in pieces and in sections, measuring each part against an ideal.  The female body is a site where identity and value are constantly being negotiated and contested.
My current work addresses ageing and the midlife female body, examining how women are rendered invisible at the precise moment they become most fully themselves.
