Ireland has numerous phrases for rain, ranging from ‘soft’ rain, mist and drizzle that falls gently on your skin, to heavy downpours, driving rain, pelting rain – rain that is physical and can hurt! This painting is inspired by Irish mythology about ancient beliefs in the transformative power of water. I imagined gentle, caressing rain, tender, healing, full of life, colour and transformative magic.
